How can I change the volume licensing product key on Windows XP? There are many people who raise the earlier question if they need to change their Volume Licensing Product Key or so calledWindows XP serial key number for certain reasons. There are situations where one user wants to validate the Windows Genuine Advantage by changing the old XP product key number and re-entering a new one. On the other hand users might also want to change product key number as blacklisted serial numbers can’t get the Windows XP updated to SP1, SP2 or SP3 versions.
You can easily change the volume license key by following the below tutorial. Do note that this is the legal method to change Microsoft’s Windows XP product key number, there are no hacks or cracks involved in this guide. But make sure to create a restore point on your system before going through the following tutorial.

Changing Windows XP Volume Licensing Product Key Number

  1. Click Start >> Run >> type Regedit in the box >> hit Enter
  2. From the left pane, navigate to the following path :
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents
  4. From the right pane, right-click on OOBETimer and select Modify
  5. Change any one digit from it’s value and Widows will get deactivated
  6. Now again navigate to Start >> Run >> type the following and hit Enter
  7. %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a
  8. Select “I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows” and click Next to continue
  9. Click on Change product key
  10. Enter your new product key in the box and click on Update. If the previous window appears again, click on “Remind me Later” and restart your computer
  11. After the computer has restarted, repeat step 5 – 6 to see the Windows activation confirmation. It will show a message like : Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit.
  12. You are done.
Now you have successfully changed the Windows XP volume licensing product key number on your computer and you can proceed with Windows XP SP1, SP2, SP3upgrades. You will also be getting all updates via Windows Live update if you have changed the product key number to any Windows Genuine volume licensing product key number.
