How to Enable or Disable Hibernate in Windows 7

Hibernate option has in every operating systems, However enabling or disabling it, in Windows 7 or Vista is not as simple as it used in Windows XP. Here in this post lets, see How to Enable or Disable Hibernate option in Windows 7. Well, for those who don’t know – Hibernation or Hibernate is a power saving option, which conserves power without losing the contents of memory. It puts all the open files and documents on to the hard disk and shuts down the computer without drawing even a small amount of power.

How to Enable or Disable Hibernate in Windows 7

  • Open command prompt, to do this type cmd in Start menu and hit Ctrl+Shift+Enter
  • Now type powercfg /hibernate on
  • Type exit and hit Enter, to close the command prompt
  • Now you can see “Hibernate” option in the Start menu
-OR-
  • Open command prompt and type Power Options in the Start menu and hit Enter
  • In the left pane, open the link labeled “Change when the computer sleeps” and open the link “Change advanced power settings”
  • A dialog box will now appear (as shown image bellow)

  • Now click on “sleep” tree and turn off “Allow Hybrid Sleep” as shown in the above screenshot
  • Now you should see the Hibernate option in the Start menu
