Few times we end up paying more tax to the income tax department while filing our tax returns. If you have got an insurance plan, donated some money to charity etc, then you stand for a tax rebate on those money. However, you end up paying tax for that amount if the tax sheet has been prepared by your office or company, keeping the salary you get in calculation, but you can apply for a tax refund from the income tax department. The money you need to get refunded will be sent to you in the next financial year, with due interest.
In order to make things transparent and clear to income tax payees, Indian Income Tax Department has launched a website where you can view your IT refund status. You need to provide your PAN card number in the box and it will pull out your income tax refund status.
Check Income Tax Refund Status online
- Go to tin.tin.nsdl.com
- Enter your 10 digit PAN card number (Ex : AMPPP5248Q)
- Select the financial year of the tax refund
- It will show you the status of your IT tax refund
- You are done.
There are two ways to receive income tax refund. One is ECS (Electronic Clearance Service) where the money will be deposited in your bank account directly. The other method is that you can opt for a paper check and it will be sent to your address by postal service. You can go for any of the said options while filing your income tax.
