How to Stop, Kill or Terminate a Process in Windows XP or Vista?

Sunday, May 16, 2010

Few times we find some programs unresponsive in Windows XP or Vista. In order to make your system run smoothly, you need to kill, stop or terminate processes so that the unresponsive processes should not use any RAM memory. There are also spywares, malwares or viruses appear now and then and we need to stop those processes either to get rid of their activities or to uninstall them by terminating processes, using the Task Manager.

How to Stop a Process in Windows XP or Vista

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc simultaneously to launch Task Manager
  2. Select the process that you want to stop
  3. Stopping a Process in Windows XP or Vista
  4. Click on End Process to kill or terminate that process
  5. You are done.
While stopping a process either in XP or Vista, just make sure that you are stopping the concerned process. Ending any system process will cause your system to hang.
